Here are My Top 10 Plugin’s For Wordpress.
Ah!!! Plugins are one of the reasons that make wordpress so extremely powerful! There are thousands of plugins for your blog that are completely free, and will make your blog an instant powerhouse without writing a single piece of code. There are so many great plugins that it is really hard to make a list of just 10, so if you have some more you would like to share please put them in the comments below. Here Goes.
1.) Comment Luv - is a plugin that uses a service to go out to the commenters blogs of choice and find the last posts that they have made. It will then create a backlink to that post and display it within their comments on your blog. This encourages visitors to your blog to hang out and write comments on your blog because it will backlink to their own blogs. This will not only give your readers alot of incentive to add comments on your blog to create traffic to their own sites but will also boost your page ranking because it is creating quality backlinks to your blog. It is really a Win Win situation for everybody and that is why it made My Top 10 List. You can view my post on comment luv and how to use it by clicking Her
2.) Contact Form 7 – is a plugin that you can use to make contact forms for your site really easily again without writing any code. ( some slight html might be needed. but for the most part this is plug and play) Some of the key features of using this plugin is that it uses spam filters from the akismet database and will filter out any spammers on your form. It supports multiple contact forms so you can use it on as many pages as you need. It also has bot prevention which uses a CAPTCHA form to make sure the comments are real and not from a bot. This form is really simple to use and saves a ton of time it would normally take to code a form like this by hand.
3.) Tiny MCE Advanced – This plugin adds advanced editing options to the WordPress’ wysiwyg editor. It makes the look and feel of the editor a lot like microsoft word. This plugin will allow you to do all of these features and more.
- Imports all CSS classes from the main theme’s stylesheet and add them to a drop-down list.
- Font size and font family selection.
- Support for making and editing tables.
- Advanced link and image dialogs that offer a lot of options.
- Search and Replace while editing.
- Support for XHTML specific tags and for (div based) layers.
- Support for adding inline css styles to any element.
One of the best things Tiny MCE Advanced does is import all css classes from the main theme’s stylesheet and adds it in the toolbar as a dropdown. It has a search and replace feature similar to word also. If you are familiar to Microsoft Word this is a must have plugin. (even if you are not familiar with word it makes making post changes a breeze.) After installing the plugin all you have to do is go to the settings panel click on Tiny MCE Advanced tab and then drag the new tools that you would like to use onto the toolbar and then click save.
4.) Exclude Pages – This plugin will allow you to add pages to your website that do not show up in the navigation bar. Some of the pages (like thank you pages where you would redirect someone to a different page to thank the for leaving a comment on your blog or offers that you have for people after they optin to your list) you do not want your visitors to see until the complete a required action. You would use this plugin to hide the page until you redirect your visitor to it after they completed the required action ie filled in optin in form or made a comment etc. This plugin will install an exclude pages check box on the bottom right hand area of the pages panel in your wordpress admin section. Then all you have to do is uncheck the exclude pages box and the page will be hidden.
5.) Google Site Map – This plugin is really self explainitory. All you have to do is download it and install it and it will create a site map for you. A Sitemap is an XML file that lists URLs for a site along with additional metadata about each URL (when it was last updated, how often it usually changes, and how important it is, relative to other URLs in the site) so that search engines can more intelligently crawl the site. In a nutshell it will notifies Ask.com, Google, Bing and YAHOO about changes to your blog and blog posts via ping. It is an invaluable tool for Search Engine Optimization and is extremely easy to use.
7.) Tweetmeme - Tweetmeme is an invaluable plugin that will allow your visitors to reetweet your blog and blog posts with the click of a button. It will also count the number of times the blog post has been retweeted form the posts. Tweetmeme will install a button within your posts and content and when it is clicked it will open up twitter in another window and allow your visitors to log in to their twitter accounts and tweet about your blog from within their own twitter accounts. Any way I can make it easier for my visitors to share my content I am all for and tweetmeme makes that incredibly easy.
8.) Viper’s Video Quicktags - Tired of copying and pasting the embed HTML from sites like YouTube? Then this plugin is for you.
Just simply click one of the new buttons that this plugin adds to the write screen (rich editor included) and then paste the URL that the video is located at into the prompt box — easy as that. One of the great features of Vipers video quicktags is that you can control the width, height, colors, alignment on the page with ease. And you can customize these every time you upload a video. Video is becoming a huge factor for SEO and getting your blog noticed so this plugin is a must have.
9.) Share This – If you want to add the easiest way for your visitors to share your content with their community then this plugin is the one. This plugin will install a button within all of your content that when clicked will open a pop up for your visitors to share your content with all of their favorite social media sites. All of the dominant social media services are available with this plugin as well as some that are not as well known. I can not find a better all in one plugin to allow your visitors to share your content, this plugin is invaluable.
10.) Comment Redirect - Getting comments to your site is really important, it creates a conversation and community around your blog. Your first time commenters are precious people, once you realize that they’re first time commenters. This plugin allows you to redirect just those people to a page of your choosing! I use this plugin along side the exclude pages plugin to create a thank you page on my blog that is hidden and when a first time commenter comments on my blog I use this plugin to redirect them to that thank you page.
Please Post your comments below, and if you have any to add that you think should be on the list please add them.
To Your Success

Great list Aaron. I’m a bit of a purist myself so I don’t use all the plugins listed but for people new to blogging, these are a must. I could probably come up with a list of 40 or so. To many will tend to slow loading time so you have to experiment with them and make sure they fit with your overall strategy. Thanks for sharing.
